Dear Marketing Professional

Games are powerful, lots of people play them and they play them with high levels of engagement. Educampus Corporate (A Division of Educampus South Africa) has just completed a comprehensive research in to “Gamification and Augmented Reality Marketing” in South Africa. Instead of “Where’s the Beef”, think “Where’s the game?”, Gamification is quickly becoming an important aspect of marketing in today’s world. The gaming phenomenon has exploded, according to the annual Tech Trends report from Deloitte, gamification is one of the key disruptors that will have a major effect on companies in the not-so-distant future. Along with social media, enterprise mobility, user empowerment and cloud technology, it is one of the five main forces changing the way people do business.

We are hosting a One (1) Day Seminar that is aimed at providing Marketers, industry advocates, leading technology providers and innovative companies/brands (looking to discover, explore and embrace these concepts) with a unique platform to gain insight into the capabilities, innovations, successes and future direction of these two innovative concepts in South Africa.

The event is to be held at the Anglo Gold Ashanti Head Office in Johannesburg (The Forum-Turbine Hall, Newtown). Our research clearly indicates that “Gamification and Augmented Reality Technology” in South Africa are a “must” for marketers, it has a massive potential to attract and retain customers, a number of brands in SA have already taken the mechanics of gaming and implemented it alongside their marketing strategy in an attempt to increase user engagement.
Forward thinking marketers and businesses understand that gaming can become an important aspect of their marketing strategy, it is the smart way to do business.

The idea of using gaming as a marketing tool is not new, however with Smartphones, Apps and the Internet playing a key role in most people’s lives; it has changed how gaming works in new and unexpected directions.  In the “old days”, businesses successfully employed strategies such as “buy ten, get one free”. Credit card companies, retail stores and similar businesses began to offer (and still offer) savings, rewards or bonuses for using their products.  These practices are successful in building and retaining customer loyalty, and it is no surprise that they are still used, often in new ways that involve online gaming.  In today’s online world, there are infinitely more ways to use and expand on such marketing strategies.  Online gaming is an invaluable way to involve and build a base of interested and engaged customers.

Understanding the psychology of the gamer  is vital to using gaming as a marketing strategy.  This is where ‘game mechanics’ come into play.  It is important to build a game that is enjoyable and encourages the gamer to continue playing.  Businesses that can use game mechanics successfully, and develop a good game as part of their gaming marketing strategy are the ones who will be successful.
Take advantage of this opportunity to learn how those who are doing it, do it……….

Looking forward to welcoming you on this informative One (1) Day, Fun Filled event

14:45 How Gamification is reshaping Businesses - Panel Discussions

Businesses should start thinking differently about how to engage customers and employees. Gamification can provide a reason for a customer to visit a website or a store more often. It could give employees a new way to obtain the feedback they desire on job performance. It could connect customers in a way that makes them feel rewarded and respected for their opinions and support of your business or product.

In today’s engagement economy, where time and attention are becoming increasingly scarce and resources precious, people are likely to gravitate to activities that are authentically rewarding and filled with the opportunities to achieve, grow and socialize. The lessons that can be learned from games and game designers are one set of tools to help us increase our return in such an economy.
If you’re ready to play: game on……...

In effect, Starfish Mobile has been developing gamification campaigns since 2005 – well before the term was coined. Given the dominance of non-smartphones in the SSA region, Starfish Mobile has devised campaigns that encompass gamification principles whilst addressing the handset limitations. As more and more brands head ’north of the borders’ they need to take cognisance of the fact that they need to adapt what they have done in Africa’s most advanced handset market to be relevanthttp://www.starfishmobile.com/
